The strict positions

The policy is deliberately strict in a small number of places. Worth knowing these by heart:

  • AI may not assign final grades. Final grades are determined by the teacher of record.
  • Student-facing written feedback must be authored or substantively reviewed by the teacher. AI may suggest language; the teacher decides what is said.
  • AI detection tools may not be the sole basis for any disciplinary or academic finding regarding student AI use.
  • AI is not used for counseling, wellness, safety, or child-protective matters. Trained humans, established protocols.
  • Communication sent under a staff member's name must be reviewed by that staff member before sending.

What you can't put into a non-approved tool

The privacy floor. Never enter these into any tool that isn't on the Tier A list:

  • Student names paired with grades, evaluations, IEP/504 information, attendance, discipline, health, or family information
  • Employee personnel files, evaluations, compensation, or medical information
  • Family financial information, tuition records, financial aid details
  • Internal financials, donor records, confidential board materials
  • Passwords, credentials, security information
