Student AI Use Policy

The student-facing companion to the Staff AI Policy. Sets expectations for how students may use AI in their classwork and how disclosure works. Drafted and iterated by the AI at S2 working group.

The full policy

This page reflects the current working draft. The complete student policy, and the family-facing one-pager, will be posted here once adopted, targeted for August 2026.

Grade-band posture in one line each

  • Pre-K through 5: Teacher-directed use only. Students do not independently use generative AI.
  • Grades 6 through 8: Guided and structured. AI only when permitted; disclosure required.
  • Grades 9 through 12: Independent with integrity. AI may be used unless explicitly prohibited; always disclosed.

The non-negotiables

  • AI may not be used on quizzes, tests, finals, or other monitored assessments unless explicitly permitted.
  • AI-generated content may not be submitted as independent work without disclosure.
  • Students must follow external rules for college applications or programs when those restrict AI use.
  • Privacy red lines apply to students too: no personal identifying information, no passwords, no confidential school documents.
