The tools S2 staff may use, organized by tier. Updated more frequently than the Staff AI Use Policy itself as tools and contracts change.

The tiers
| Tier | What it means | Examples |

| Tier A | Approved for confidential and student information. DPA in place, no model training, school-managed. | Claude for Work (pending plan confirmation), Gemini in Workspace for Education |
| Tier B | Approved for de-identified or non-confidential use only. | Free ChatGPT, free Claude, consumer Gemini |
| Under Eval | Meet the Tier A bar on paper; need an explicit decision. | MagicSchool (in use at Elementary), Flint |
| Tier C | Restricted or prohibited. | AI detection tools, voice clones, deepfake generators |
The default rule
If a tool is not on the list,
treat it as Tier C by default. Contact the S2 AI policy contact before using it with any school information.
Adding a tool
To request approval for a new AI tool, or to change the tier of an existing one, submit a brief request including: tool name, intended use case, who would use it, what data would be entered, and any privacy or licensing information available. Decisions typically within two weeks.
